Frequently Asked Questions
The short answer is no. ACT is a highly specialized, tertiary level service that most often requires a referral from a psychiatrist. Depending on what your role is with your client, you may be able to provide collateral information to the psychiatrist/community mental health team making the referral. The referral process looks different across ACT teams and Health authorities. If you are interested in seeking out information about the referral process, navigate to an ACT team in your community on the ACT Teams pages.
Please contact the ACT team directly, using the phone number provided on their individual team page for current clients and their family. Please note, depending on your role and the client, we may not be allowed to share information back to you due to patient confidentiality.
Service providers on ACT teams will often refer to themselves as “Jane from ACT” or “John from ACT.” If not, just ask them what team they work on! Remember, because ACT teams are transdisciplinary, meaning all staff work with all clients, you may see a number of different team members interacting with your shared client.
