The Indigenous Cultural Liaison may have other titles such as Indigenous Outreach Worker or Indigenous Support Worker, who work primarily with the ACT participants who may identify as Indigenous.  They are a valuable part of the team to build relationships and support these participants with their healing. 

The role of the Indigenous Cultural Liaison includes, but is not limited to, these duties:

  • Cultivates relationships and an atmosphere of high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support. 
  • Works with Indigenous health approaches, protocols, and cultural knowledge to support current and potential clients. 
  • Assist Indigenous clients in accessing Traditional Wellness practices, Elders, Matriarchs, and Healers as part of their individual wellness journey. 
  • Investigates and establish connections with individual and group supports for Indigenous clients, focusing on Indigenous perspectives on healing and recovery, available Indigenous services and resources, and Indigenous culture. Actively plan, arrange, and seek out these relationships in coordination the program team and manager.
  • Expertise in legislation and regulations pertinent to Indigenous clients, encompassing residential schools, the 60’s scoop, Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls to Justice, the child and family welfare system, as well as knowledge of Indigenous cultures, services, and paths to healing and recovery. 
  • Engage in projects and initiatives aimed at fostering cultural awareness and humility, thereby improving the caliber of support provided to Indigenous clients.
