The Occupational Therapist, often shortened to OT, are all registered under the Health Professionals Act, as the experts in addressing health and well-being through enabling client occupation. This includes client-centred rehabilitative expertise such as completion of psycho-social rehabilitation (PSR) assessments to determine appropriate interventions.
The role of the Occupational Therapist includes, but is not limited to, these duties:
- Conducts comprehensive functional assessments (self-care, productivity, leisure, and housing) and provides interventions for activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADLs.
- Provides cognitive assessments and recommendations to inform care planning.
- Promotes quality of life by engaging clients in meaningful activities.
- Prescribes basic equipment and assistive devices.
Offers education and support to increase independence through goal setting, coping strategies, and self-regulation.
