The Psychiatrist, also known as the Physician or Doctor, is responsible for the medical and legal processes of ACT participants regarding the Mental Health Act.  They work directly with ACT participants and collaborate on their medical care within the healthcare system. 

The role of the Psychiatrist includes, but is not limited to, these duties:

  • Conducts comprehensive medical, social, substance, family, mental health, and pharmacological history.
  • Provides ongoing comprehensive assessments of the client’s mental health symptoms, diagnosis, and response to treatment.
  • Directs psychopharmacological care including medication treatment planning.
  • Implements the Mental Health Act if and when required, including certification to hospital and extended leave renewals.

Provides clinical supervision of residents and medical students.
